against gun violence

The Global Week of
Action Against Gun Violence highlights the international campaign
to stop the proliferation and misuse of small arms. The Week of Action is to raise
awareness, campaign for better gun laws and push for stronger regulation of
the international arms trade.

· Patricia Hopkins, a Tasmanian nurse who has spent six months
volunteering at Nyakibale Hospital in south-west Uganda.
· Marc Pequero, a former street child of the Philippines who has spent eight years with
Bahay Tuluyan (BT) and currently teaches children on the streets of Manila.
· Rachiel Neverio, head of the Children's Council for a BT Centre in
the Philippines
and who has stayed with BT since she was ten.
Bahay Tuluyan, a Filipino NGO that provides shelter, education, and care for
street children in the Philippines,
is visiting Tasmania.
During this week they are conducting an advocacy tour, "Kids Views
2006" based on the United Nations Charter on the Rights of the Child.
